King rewards the cream of Scottish business – Daily Business

OBEs for accountant Sue Dawe and ice cream maker Maitland Mackie

Business leaders, a broadcaster and those involved in steering the energy transition are among the individuals named in the King’s Birthday Honours.

Willie Mackie, formerly interim chair at Scottish Enterprise and now chair, CentreStage, Kilmarnock is honoured with a CBE for services to education and the economy.

Sue Dawe managing partner at EY, Maitland Mackie, chairman of the eponymous ice cream maker Mackies of Scotland, and John Grant, chairman of J & G Grant whisky, are rewarded with OBEs.

The honour for Mr Mackie comes in a landmark year as the family-owned business celebrates 40 years of making ice cream.

An OBE has also been bestowed on Dr Rashmi Mantri, the founder and director of the British Youth International College, for services to maths education. She has built a business based on an ancient method of calculation using beads.

Breakfast radio show host George Bowie and Scottish Enterprise manager Jane Martin are among those who become an MBE.

Andrew John Jamieson, lately chief executive of Offshore Renewable Energy Catapult, for services to the renewable energy industries; June Frances Macgeachy, co-founder, Peak Scientific, for services to business, to education and to philanthropy; Maitland Mackie, chairman, Mackies of Scotland, for services to farming, to business innovation and to sustainability; Dr Rashmi Mantri, founder and chief executive, British Youth International College, for services to mathematics education; Allan Taylor, for services to renewable energy.
