Wood Mackenzie, the energy data analyst, has acquired US land and grid intelligence firm LandGate as it prepares for electricity demand to grow at an unprecedented pace.<\/p>\n
Founded in Denver, Colorado in 2016, LandGate offers insights to inform investment decisions for data centres, power and renewables projects, and other energy infrastructure assets.<\/p>\n
Jason Liu, CEO of Wood Mackenzie, which originated in Edinburgh, said: \u201cWood Mackenzie is committed to providing the data, analytics and insights our clients need to make critical decisions in an increasingly complex energy world.<\/p>\n
\u201cThe system is becoming more interconnected and companies that rely on siloed approaches will be left behind. \u201c<\/p>\n
He said the acquisition gives customers \u201ca uniquely connected view of where demand is growing, how the grid must respond, and where capital should flow.\u201d<\/p>\n
Wood Mackenzie began in 1923 as a small Edinburgh-based stockbroker and by the 1970s had become one of the top brokers int the UK, renowned for the quality of its equity research.<\/p>\n
In 1973, the firm published its first oil report, beginning a new era. It first cultivated deep expertise in upstream oil and gas, and nows offer the same level of detailed insight for every interconnected sector of the energy, chemicals, metals & mining, and power & renewables industries across the world.<\/p>\n
It has undergone a number of ownership changes and in February 2023 it became a portfolio company of Veritas Capital, an investor at the intersection of technology and government.<\/p>\n
