Angry subscribers to a popular streaming app in Mexico are demanding refunds for missing parts of the World Cup\u2019s opening ceremony, after the Vix platform\u2019s transmission failed to work as the festivities got underway.<\/p>\n
\u201cWe have detected a technical glitch that is affecting the broadcast of the inauguration. Our team is already working to resolve it,\u201d Vix wrote on social media about an hour before the start of the tournament\u2019s first match on Thursday pitting host Mexico against South Africa.<\/p>\n

Some users shared screenshots of error messages online, and demanded their money back.<\/p>\n
\u201cTerrible service. I paid for my subscription and I already missed the opening. I demand a bonus or a full refund. We need to be ready for a class-action lawsuit,\u201d Jorge Ruiz wrote on X. Dozens of upset users posted similar messages while threatening to ask Mexico\u2019s consumer protection agency Profeco to help with the refunds.<\/p>\n
Owned by TelevisaUnivision, the world\u2019s largest provider of Spanish-language video content, Vix is the only streaming platform with the rights to broadcast all World Cup matches this year in Mexico.<\/p>\n
For months, Vix had been promoting a 999 peso package, or about $58, promising full access to the world\u2019s biggest sporting event over the next five weeks.<\/p>\n
The platform said it resolved its technical problems more than half an hour after the inaugural game began, according to another Vix post, though some users continued to complain about spotty transmission even after that.<\/p>\n
