Any doubts over Steve Clarke\u2019s future as Scotland head coach have been dispelled with the Scottish FA handing him a new four-year contract.<\/p>\n
The 62-year-old, who has steered Scotland into their first World Cup since 1998 \u2013 they play their opening match against Haiti on 14 June in Boston \u2013 has penned a deal until the 2030 World Cup.<\/p>\n
Clarke, whose contract was due to expire this summer, is the only boss to lead the team to three major tournaments. He has been at the helm since 2019 and said it was a \u201cprivilege\u201d to continue in charge of the national team.<\/p>\n
\u201cI know the Scotland supporters appreciate the achievements of this group,\u201d said Clarke. \u201cI am truly honoured to lead my squad into our first men\u2019s World Cup in 28 years and it is a privilege to continue in this role.<\/p>\n
\u201cIt\u2019s very important to look ahead and, while my squad will be doing everything to make the country proud in America this summer, it also gives us certainty knowing that we can look to build on those foundations for the long-term.\u201d<\/p>\n
Welcoming Clarke\u2019s extended deal, SFA chief executive Ian Maxwell said: \u201cHis record speaks for itself: three finals tournament qualifications out of four, including consecutive Euros finals and, of course, an imminent World Cup return after nearly three decades.<\/p>\n
\u201cBeyond that, he has built a squad that the nation has taken to its heart, making Barclays Hampden a fortress once again. During our discussions about the future, we were all agreed that we cannot rest on our achievements or ever take qualification for granted.<\/p>\n
\u201cThe passion and enthusiasm with which he discussed that road map emphasises that this will not simply be a continuation but a renewed purpose and focus over the next four years.\u201d<\/p>\n
