The corporation is one of Wall Street\u2019s <\/strong>most important software names related to defense<\/strong>, intelligence <\/strong>and national security infrastructure<\/strong>.<\/p>\n That role is becoming a major engine of growth.<\/p>\n It\u2019s also making the stock harder to value.<\/p>\n After the company\u2019s first-quarter 2026 earnings topped expectations, Freedom Broker <\/strong>upgraded Palantir shares to a Buy rating and boosted its price target to $230<\/strong> from $170<\/strong>.<\/p>\n Palantir <\/strong>reported $1.63 billion in revenue<\/strong>, an 85% <\/strong>increase year-over-year. U.S. income <\/strong>jumped 104% to $1.28 billion <\/strong>while U.S. government revenue rose 84% to $687 million<\/strong>.<\/p>\n Those are some staggering numbers.<\/p>\n But now investors are faced with a more complex decision.<\/p>\n The same variables that benefit Palantir\u2019s AI business, such as increased defense spending, instability surrounding Gaza, tensions with Iran, and pressure around the Strait of Hormuz, might also increase headline risk.<\/p>\n Freedom Broker said Palantir\u2019s AIP platform<\/strong> acts as an \u201cindispensable ontological bridge\u201d for securely integrating advanced large language models into complex corporate processes.<\/p>\n Palantir\u2019s<\/strong> most recent quarter highlighted why Wall Street is still stuck on the business.<\/p>\n The software maker reported adjusted operating income of $984 million, representing a 60% margin. Adjusted free cash flow reached $925 million, representing a 57% margin.<\/p>\n Those are elite software numbers.<\/p>\n Palantir<\/strong> also closed 206 sales <\/strong>worth $1 million or more<\/strong>, including 47 deals <\/strong>worth $10 million or more<\/strong>. Total contract value increased 61% year-over-year to $2.41 billion<\/strong>.<\/p>\n Related: Palantir stock caught in a battle over pension billions<\/strong><\/p>\n The company\u2019s Artificial Intelligence Platform<\/strong>, or AIP<\/strong>, assists customers in connecting large language models <\/strong>with internal data, workflows, and decision-making tools.<\/p>\n That matters for companies.<\/p>\n It matters even more for governments.<\/p>\n The Pentagon has chosen Palantir\u2019s Maven artificial intelligence system as a primary command-and-control platform for the military, Reuters reports. Maven uses data from satellites, drones, radar, and sensors to assist in detecting threats.<\/p>\n That might help Palantir\u2019s<\/strong>defense AI narrative<\/strong>.<\/p>\n It raises the ante, too.<\/p>\n The downside to the Palantir<\/strong> story is that some of its biggest tailwinds are connected to a less stable world.<\/p>\n The battle in Gaza continues to be a severe humanitarian issue.<\/p>\n At the same time, Iran and the Strait of Hormuz are the source of a big market risk. <\/p>\n Iran has permitted some Chinese ships to pass through the canal under management norms, Reuters said, and U.S. President Donald Trump and Chinese President Xi Jinping agreed the strait must remain open for oil supplies.<\/p>\n That is important because the Strait of Hormuz <\/strong>is a key oil shipping lane.<\/p>\n For Palantir bulls, increased global tension could translate into greater demand for defense software, battlefield data systems, and intelligence capabilities.<\/p>\n For doubters, it adds ethical, political, and reputational risk.<\/p>\n That tension is now key to the investing thesis for Palantir.<\/p>\n Photo by Michael M.
